Water Repellent Coating

Concrete and masonry surfaces always require protection from the damages of wind-driven rain, freeze-thaw, moisture, and chloride ion intrusion from de-icing salts. These coatings are an Aqueous Silicone-based solution used for the impregnation of mineral construction material to make it water repellent and includes coatings such as Weather proofing, Silicone Emulsion and Hydrophobic Coating. Many epoxy floors claim to be waterproof, but unless they are a resin-rich poured floor, they are only temporarily waterproofed. The amount of aggregate needed for most quartz epoxy flooring leads to voids, which allow liquids to penetrate. They rely on a thin top coat of sealant to keep the water out. Unfortunately, this provides only temporary protection. After frequent foot traffic, and multiple cleanings with harsh detergents, this layer deteriorates and wears away. Gravity forces liquids to their lowest possible point which means that if the concrete floor system has cracks or vulnerable spots, water and other liquids will find them and seep through. Sometimes this means soaking through the porous grout of a tile floor, or trickling into hard-to-notice imperfections in the concrete. It may even mean that water trickles towards the wall, where it will seep through the seam between the floor and the drywall. The consequences in many cases, means soaking into porous wall board, sub-floor material and rafters, encouraging mold and bacteria to form. If that weren’t bad enough, liquids on an upper level can just as easily seep completely through the ceiling of the room below, causing massive damage to anything stored there.
